I purchased this 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa in 1999, never imagining it would remain with me for the next twenty-seven years. During that time it became far more than another car in the garage. It has been a companion on weekend drives, road trips, Porsche Club of America events, driver's education weekends, and thousands of memorable miles. Today the odometer shows approximately 106,000 miles, with approximately 24,000 of those accumulated during my ownership.
Driven, Not Stored
Driven regularly, maintained carefully, and enjoyed exactly as Porsche intended.
I've always believed Porsches are meant to be driven and enjoyed. This Carrera was never intended to become a museum piece or a concours car. While it has received multiple Porsche Club of America awards at regional and national events, my greatest satisfaction has always come from driving it, maintaining it properly, and sharing it with fellow enthusiasts.
My involvement with the Porsche community extends well beyond ownership. As a long-time Porsche Club of America member, two-time PCA Region President, and PCA High Performance Driver Education Instructor, I've spent many years encouraging others to enjoy these cars safely and as their engineers intended. This Carrera accompanied me to numerous HPDE events throughout the Midwest, participating only in instructional, non-competitive driver education—not organized racing. Those experiences reinforced my commitment to preventative maintenance, mechanical reliability, and preserving the car for the long term.

Every significant repair was made with long-term ownership in mind.
Because I expected to own this Porsche indefinitely, I approached every repair with that philosophy in mind. When major mechanical work became necessary—including the top-end engine rebuild, clutch replacement, and transmission synchronizer service—it was completed properly rather than postponed. Nearly every service invoice, receipt, ownership record, manual, and significant document accumulated during my stewardship has been preserved. Together they tell a story that few forty-year-old automobiles can match.
The vehicle's history includes an Illinois rebuilt title issued before I purchased the car. It is currently titled and registered in Missouri. Rather than minimizing that chapter of its history, I have chosen to present it openly, along with the extensive documentation that accompanies the car. This Carrera has been maintained as a driver's Porsche rather than restored as a concours car. During more than twenty-seven years of ownership, I have focused on preserving and improving the car through documented maintenance and thoughtful repairs rather than cosmetic restoration. It remains rust free, presents exceptionally well, and reflects decades of careful stewardship while retaining the character of a Porsche that has been regularly driven and enjoyed. My goal has always been to keep it mechanically strong, cosmetically attractive, and ready to drive at any time.

Prior to my ownership, the car was professionally rebuilt following documented front-body damage from a deer strike and refinished in its original Prussian Blue Metallic using a modern two-stage paint system. In 2025, the finish received professional paint correction and detailing. The interior remains largely original, including the carpets and door panels. The Targa roof was professionally rebuilt with new exterior covering, seals, and headliner. Custom plush carpet mats help preserve the original carpeting while complementing the interior.

Mechanical reliability has always taken priority over cosmetic perfection. Major documented work includes a top-end engine rebuild with valve-guide service, clutch replacement, transmission synchronizer service, Bilstein suspension upgrades, steering and brake improvements, injector seals, extensive air-conditioning repairs, and numerous additional documented repairs and maintenance completed throughout my ownership. Most recently, the car received Yokohama ADVAN Sport V105 tires, a new AGM battery installed in June 2026, and the air conditioning remains serviced and blows cold.

Known Imperfections
No forty-year-old Porsche is perfect, and I believe complete disclosure is an important part of an honest sale. The driver's seat upholstery shows significant wear, the seat cushions have softened with age, and the dashboard is fitted with a permanently installed vacuum-formed dash cover over age-related cracks. The cruise control is currently inoperative, and the car displays the minor cosmetic imperfections expected of a well-maintained Porsche that has been driven and enjoyed.

I purchased the car on January 11, 1999, following a professional pre-purchase inspection, and it has remained in my care ever since. During more than twenty-seven years of ownership, my philosophy has always been simple: keep the car mechanically sound, address problems correctly, and preserve its history through careful documentation.
An Honest Beginning
Before my ownership, the Porsche sustained front body damage in a reported deer strike. The repairs were completed using Porsche OEM replacement parts, and the car received an Illinois rebuilt title. I purchased the car with full knowledge of that history after reviewing the available documentation and the results of a professional inspection. That history has never been hidden and remains an important part of the car's documented provenance.
Maintenance Before Cosmetics
Over the years, the emphasis has always been on mechanical reliability rather than cosmetic perfection. Routine maintenance was performed consistently, and repairs were made as needed rather than postponed. Extensive records document oil services, valve adjustments, brake work, suspension improvements, air-conditioning repairs, Targa-top restoration, and many other maintenance items performed throughout my ownership.
A Major Mechanical Investment
The most significant mechanical investment occurred at approximately 94,000 miles, when the engine received documented top-end work while the transmission was serviced with synchro replacement and the clutch was renewed. Additional related work included oil-system components, ignition service, shift linkage improvements, and other preventive maintenance completed at the same time. This major service has contributed to the strong mechanical condition the car enjoys today.
Continuous Improvement
Mechanical improvements continued in the years that followed. Bilstein suspension components, steering and brake upgrades, Targa-top restoration, injector seal replacement, repeated air-conditioning service, a short-shift kit, and numerous smaller repairs reflect an ongoing commitment to maintaining the car rather than simply keeping it operational. Most recently, the air conditioning was serviced, new Yokohama ADVAN Sport tires were installed, and the car received professional paint correction and detailing in preparation for its next owner.

After more than 27 years of ownership, I am looking for the right next caretaker for this distinctive and exceptionally well-documented air-cooled 911. Every prospective buyer is encouraged to review the Documentation Library, inspect the vehicle in person, and arrange an independent Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI).
The car is located in Cape Coral, Florida, approximately 30 minutes from Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). I am happy to assist with inspection scheduling, enclosed vehicle transport, or airport pickup for serious buyers.
